Post Jazz Fest 2019
New Orleans Jazz Fest 2019 Lineup has been announced.

As rumored, Rolling Stones are main headliner. Secondary headliners include DMB, Katy Perrty, Sanatana, Jimmy Buffet, Chris Stapleton, Pitbull (vomit). Tons of undercard acts, including the typical NOLA bands as expected (Trombone Shorty, Revivalists, Neville’s, etc). Alanis Morissette is there, didn’t even know she was still performing. Say what you want about 90’s pop-rock music but Jagged Little Pill is a bad ass album.

Contrary to the popular rumor, Phish is not there.

I was actually considering trying to do Jazz Fest if Phish was there, great excuse to get back to Nola. But with summer plans now shaping up, and with moe. at Brooklyn Bowl Vegas in early March, plus no Phish in Nola, Jazz Fest is out for me again this year.

Worth mentioning re: Jazz Fest...

Typically, Jazz Fest has been Fri-Sat-Sun first weekend (last weekend of April), and Thur-Fri-Sat-Sun second weekend (first weekend of May).

However, the Rolling Stones play the second weekend Thursday, and that day is separately ticketed. Meaning Thur 5/2 is priced at $185, vs. other days of the fest, currently priced at $70/day. They added the first Thursday, to accommodate the traditional Local's Day, which offers cheaper tix to local residents.

There are 10,000 tix going on sale at the Superdome tomorrow (1/17) for the Stones day. No exact figures have been announced, but rumors indicate that no more than 50,000 tix will be sold for Stones day. It is expected that no other act will be performing, when the Stones do their thing. Public sale via Ticketmaster for Stones day go on sale Friday 1/18.

I have old friends who do JF every year... WWOZ, the much loved public radio station, has offered the Brass Pass for years, which is a hard pass that has been good for entry all days of Jazz Fest. However, Brass Passes are invalid for this year's Stones day. Brass Pass buyers have the option to buy a ticket for Stones day separately. At the moment, Brass Pass sales are suspended (not sure what's up with that).

As one can imagine, there's lots of teeth gnashing going on in the world of Jazz fest regulars... some of it makes the Wanee teeth gnashing here look mild. Turns out that passionate fans are... passionate!
:D

Thanks for the info BB. i was not aware of those changes. Honestly i can see why the regulars are a bit perturbed. Bringing in an act like the Stones is one thing. Bringing them in then changing the entire structure of the event to accommodate them is another.

According to those who are familiar with the Stones operation... they call the shots... it's a 'You want the Stones? This is how it's gonna be' situation...

There's a fair amount of annoyance that the locals are being kicked to the curb, with that second Thursday having traditionally been the local's day... and now that's moved to the first Thursday. Basically there's the same seven days of JF, with another day added where the Stones run the show... it's 3X more expensive that day. They've also declared no chairs and no tarps for Stones day... most of the long time annual JF clientele is nearing or well past 60yo; coincidentally, the demographic for the Stones audience skews similar... the actual sales limit for that day has NOT been officially announced... There is no guarantee so far, that the 50K admits is a real thing... no chairs, to me, equals them wanting to sell a lot of tix.

~~~
It's a long standing complaint, that JF is no longer aimed primarily to showcase the culture of New Orleans, nor aimed to please local New Orleans residents... one that exacerbated after the hurricane... this Stones booking is a 'get' for Quint Davis, sure... but there's a cost to that.
Compared to the other Stones shows on this tour, this ticket is on the affordable side... and all those other giant Stones shows are selling out. But it's apples and oranges. Jazz Fest has had a history of booking folks not normally seen at a festival: Paul Simon... Aretha... Stevie Wonder... it's a really long list of singular artists who said yes to Quint and JF.
But as you said: this is pretty huge change to a long running event.
