Just curious, what did Chris do and how hard did he step?
Why, it's all over the internet!
Two weeks ago, Chris was on the Howard Stern radio show, slagging on John Mayer, and the popularity of all the Grateful Dead tribute bands that are out there~
“The Grateful Dead has turned into this giant nipple that everyone sucks off to get money,” he continued. “I’m not a big John Mayer fan. Jerry Garcia is a hero of mine. Everything that Jerry ever talked about or stood for — John Mayer is the antithesis…. He knows all the licks, there’s nothing unusual about his playing. Jerry was one of the most unique musicians in the world. Jerry never played anyone else’s licks and now here’s John Mayer playing everyone else’s licks.”It's especially galling, considering the fine cover of Hard to Handle put the Black Crowes on the map, and was an obvious nod to Pigpen / the Dead's version. And Chris / CRB has been involved in many Dead one-offs, including Phil & Friends last summer at Lock'n Fest. Chris sucks that very same teat, and has been doing so for over thirty years.
It's really bad form. Don't talk s#%t about your contemporaries. What's the easiest criticism ever? "Nobody else was like Jerry Garcia / Nobody will ever be Jerry!" YEAH WE KNOW. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.
I might be considerate of that kind of view, if the fella saying such things were adding something new to jamband music. But CRB does not... it does straight 4/4 blues centered rock. Look at the P&F setlist from Lock'n (8/28/2016): Save for St. Stephen and The Wheel, it's all straight blues rock. That's what they can (erm) handle, and nothing more.
I think I see why Kate Hudson dumped his fuzzy ass.
