Post Fireworks Mishap During Panic
Does anyone know what exactly happened? Seemed like a mortar fell over sideways behind the sound booth and exploded in the crowd. Pyro Mishap? Some dummy sneaked it in?

Was anyone hurt? There was definitely potential for serious burns.

I'm not a fan of fireworks back at camp, but the variables involved there are somewhat manageable. IN THE VENUE THOUGH! With so many people dancing around, that's utterly moronic. Only a dummy would even try.

Even if there were no burns, I'd bet there was hearing loss and bad trips for those near the explosion's concussion. If I was close, I might want to bruise up my fists on the culprit's face... and I'm a peace loving hippie! 8-)

Man thats scary. Not to be a prude, but I am NOT a fan of people bringing fireworks into shows. Well except for at Sound Tribe shows when dudes time the bottle rockets to the peaks of the jams akin to glow stick wars at Phish. That s#%t is wild. But otherwise, no fireworks at shows fans!

Hope everyone was/is ok!

That was some scary sh!T. We were 30-40 feet away from all three that went off. Before the 3rd one, I even said that is not cool, someone could really get hurt if something goes wrong.i figured it would not be good once we heard it it didn't see a mortar, although we didn't hear of any injuries.

SURE they are. Just add a good safe watching distance, we got a deal.

At one point, I sat in the field thinking "Wow, it's really cool that everybody seems to have respected the request to not release Chinese Lanterns"....

....then the fireworks started going off.

Ok, so this sort of answers part of my question. We were at camp for the first two I think. Or maybe at the beer tent. Either way the first couple were not near me, and there have been fireworks at Panic shows before. This lead me to believe that they were sanctioned Pyro. Not unheard of. They were so close to the sound booth and the direction of the blast seemed like it had fallen off the back of the soundboard and shot into the crowd. So, they were just from dumb asses? Makes more sense. I was in front of the Tree house white fence. It was close enough that we all talked about leaving the area.

Two other scary incidents, where Hugh nearly laid his bible down:

1) Saw some dumbarse wearing a very inappropriate t-shirt, regarding sexual assault and murder. Considered pre-emptive strike, but calmed myself by staring at "beat to a different drummer" t-shirt instead.

2) watching show with nchippie at mushroom stage, when someone walks by with what appears to be a rifle wrapped with glow-string. Calmed myself by chasing them down and finding that it was a fake "marching" rifle. Not a hero. Not a casualty!

People making poor choices at a fest! Who would have thought it?
