To me, there is no correct answer. It changes based on context. As in, the best this morning, or later in the car, or at the campsite. Different time of day, set, and setting all influence the answer.

Perhaps... this is the best answer.

Agreed, I believe that Personal Perspective is the answer!

JRAD put on an incredibly face melting set at Sunshine Music Fest....wish St Augustine was closer or I wasn't so slammed at the present

I'd still go with the Phil Lesh quintet, Dead & Co. close second. JRAD is great though. Great improv.

What is the Phil Lesh quintet? Links please (always need more Phil in my life). Thanks in advance!

It's definitely the best answer but it takes all the fun out of the discussion so I am ignoring it. haha

Jazz Is Dead, as an instrumental interpretation that I feel has a lot of merit too!

Jazz is Dead actually brought me to the music of the GD. Laughing Water is my favorite album...ever! Jimmy at his very best, T. Lavitz killing it on keys, Alphonso Johnson on bass, Rod Morgenstein AND Jeff Sipe on drums. Then you have Derek Trucks, Steve Kimock, Vassar Clements making contributions. GREAT album! If you haven't given it a listen, you should.

Entire album is great. And "Row Jimmy" is a guitar exhibition like no other:

Well I can say with certainty after this weekend that Grass Is Dead isn't in the top 5.

Was this at Suwannee? What was the attendence like?

I've seen GID a few times, and like 'em just fine. They were actually one of the highlights at Suwannee Roots last year.

The Q! They were my favorite Phil and Friends lineup: '00 - '03. Believe it or not, Warren and Jimmy shared the stage without stepping on each other's toes... good times. Fantastic music was made.

In the Summer of '02, they toured with Ratdog. Bobby and Phil each enjoyed doing their own things and came out for a tune or two with the other outfit. It was a really good vibe that led to The Other Ones reforming without Hornsby, and then transitioning into "The Dead"... they were good times. 8-)
