Post Surf casting question...
Hey folks, I need some help. We have a nine year old grandson in the Jacksonville NC area that is getting into surf casting but doesn't have any equipment except for a basic salt water rod and reel. Can someone point in the right direction for lures, lines, and anything else he may be able to use? Although we have miles of ocean front in Maine, I don't do any salt water fishing.

Your fishing expertise is greatly appreciated!

I think he's a little north of there but you happen to see him, send him this way.

Here's a good lure for Striped Bass which I believe is one of the fish to surf cast for in NC

My dad was an avid surf caster. He had a smorgasbord of lures, lines and poles. My younger brother took up the hobby using our dad's gear which had lain unused since his death in 1967 until 1978. Both my dad and brother could go for hours on end standing in the surf. I don't know much about the sport except the thrill and utter excitement I witnessed while they cast the lines and when the fish took the bait. Good luck on your search.

In the Chesapeake Bay we used rubber tubing and a hook to catch Bluefish and Stripers. But we were trolling. I'll send him your way ETR! :D

Rev is the Master fisherman on here....maybe he can give a few pointers.
Around here....many use live bait. One guy will carry all the baited hooks out beyond the sand bar and drop them off from his kayak....then he will return to shore and they wait for something to hit. Of course, we are in the Gulf and not ocean front so things are probably different.

Viper most certainly lives close to Jville......I live about 30 minutes north of there but grew up in Jacksonville. I am in and out of there ALL the time. My Dad and sister still live there! ETR where does your grandson live in Jacksonville?

He's actaully at Camp Lejeune. His mom, my sons ex-wife, has remarried and they moved down your way this summer.
