Little mini-fest this weekend here in SC. Aiken Bluegrass Festival.

Sets by:
Keller Williams Solo
Larry Keel and Natural Bridge
The Traveling McCoury's
Keller and the Keels
Keller and the Traveling McCoury's
and a "Late Night All Star Jam" which is almost certainly a combination of the three

A couple smaller name Bluegrass acts as well. Should be fun. Oh, and best part, its only $20. Seriously!

Going to see Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues on Mother’s Day at Earls Hideaway in Sebastian, Fl. What’s got me excited is the nice ride on the Harley getting there…

Mike Dillon Band, D'Visitors and Poetry 'N Lotion at the Crowbar in Ybor City (Tampa) Thursday night

I would pay to see any of the three. This is a trifecta for me!

TRIFECTA INDEED!

Poetry 'N Lotion is a very different band than before. I loved the old sound, but this new version is superior. Guitar, bass and drums now fronted by trumpet and trombone. Really punchy jazzy stuff. I was knocked out.

d'Visitors is a band I would attempt to label Afropop, but they cover a lot of bases (basses?). Nikki Ferraro, for my 2 cents, is the best vocalist in this area. She can really belt a tune without screaming it.

And the Mike Dillon Band. To me, more punk-metal-jazz in the Dead Kenny Gs vein -- right up my alley. Dillon is a master and has surrounded himself with superb musicians. It's tough not to point out Carly Myers first, a whirling dervish pixie with a trombone. Cliff Hines added layer upon layer with his guitar, and Adam Gertner was the perfect drummer to accompany Dillon. It was a wonderful, wonderful night of music.

I like holding the winning ticket!

Sir Paul

...this Saturday, with son Mikey and my wife Linda :D

Linda has never seen any of the Beatles live. So she's stoked. As is Mikey, a GIANT Beatles fan. We kept it a surprise until his next-to-last day of school last week; it's his HS graduation present. I presented him a certificate I made ("Sir Paul Wants YOU to join him in concert...") at dinner. He was floored 8-)

I saw Wings waaaay back in the day, I believe a track from the show I caught wound up on his Wings live elpee, you know the kind with those big black 12" CD's? Anyhow, two of the folks in that band I saw have passed on (Linda and Jimmy), and this current band is no doubt the best he's ever assembled for touring purposes. So put me in the WAY STOKED category too.

I managed to get nosebleeds; I kept thinking I should upgrade, but another $600 hit for three seats, one night's entertainment?... well, I just can't justify it. Considering how I don't see how I'll avoid purchasing some overpriced tour geegaw at the show...

And thus the SoFla festival season winds down for us...
